Quick Overview

Dyson Pet groom tool - 921001-01

Dyson

The Dyson groom tool removes loose hair directly from your dog before it's shed around the home. Collected hair is then sucked straight into the vacuum. Mess free vacuum-assisted dog grooming.

Suction is split during grooming. Enough suction is directed to the dog's coat to capture loose hair and dead skin cells, without the tool sticking. When the thumb trigger is released, the bristles retract and full suction is transferred to the soleplate to hygienically suck captured hair into the vacuum.
Loose hair is removed by 364 slicker bristles angled at 35 °. When pressure is applied, they flex to an upright position to penetrate the entire coat. Bristle length is controlled by a spring-loaded trigger. Adjusting thumb pressure extends or withdraws the slicker bristles. Different dog breeds require different bristle lengths – the longer the dog's hair, the longer the bristle length. When not in use, the bristles retract for safe storage.
The Dyson groom tool can be used with most Dyson upright and cylinder vacuums. It's suitable for long and medium haired dogs.

  • The problems with pet hair

Some animals such as dogs shed more hair at certain times of the year - spring and winter being the peak moulting seasons. But at all times, their hair is in the process of growing, dying and falling.

Once pet hairs have settled on the floor, they are easily trodden into carpets - in rooms and on stairs. They can be hard to remove. Suction alone isn't enough, a rotating brush bar is needed to agitate the carpet pile and dislodge them. And special tools such as a Mini turbine head are required to clean upholstery and car interiors.

Pet hair also carries substances that can trigger allergic reactions - sneezing, itching, a runny nose. And it gets transferred from upholstery to clothing, spreading even further around the home.

    Pets can cause allergic reactions

When a person has an allergy to pets, it's not generally pet hair itself that's the cause. It's the allergens the hair contains. Pet hairs can contain an allergen that is secreted by the animal's sebaceous glands and passed to the fur during grooming. The flakes of dried skin known as dander can also be a problem.

    Cats

Cats produce a number of different allergens. The most common are proteins that are secreted from the animal's glands and transferred to hair and dander during grooming. They stick to clothing and upholstery. They can also become airborne and trigger allergic reactions when inhaled.

    Dogs

The main allergen produced by dogs is found in the saliva. It clings to the animal's hair and is spread around the home through moulting. Dogs also spread dander when they scratch themselves - something they do more regularly than cats.

    Symptoms of pet allergies

When someone with allergies comes into contact with pet allergens, a number of reactions can occur. These include:

Eyes, Itchy, watery, sore, Nose, Itching, running, sneezing, sinus inflammation, Throat, Coughing, soreness, Lungs, Wheezing, shortness of breath, Skin and
    Reddened area on the skin
